Changes in the New +1 Release of Stock Rover
Stock Rover’s latest release boasts several major improvements designed to make your investment research experience more intuitive, flexible, and comprehensive. With over 40,000 tickers now included in the database, you’ll have access to a vast array of stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, closed-end funds, preferred shares, and tickers traded on foreign exchanges.
Pricing for 40,000+ Tickers
The most exciting aspect of this release is the significant expansion of Stock Rover’s ticker database. With over 40,000 tickers now included, you’ll have a more comprehensive stock research and portfolio management experience. This means you can monitor your portfolios that may contain tickers not previously available in the program.
To make it even easier to work with these additional tickers, any ticker that is not part of the Stock Rover database can be dynamically added by you! Here’s how it works:
- You type a ticker into the Research Box. For example, if you want to add FOP (a stock traded on the Oslo exchange), which isn’t part of Stock Rover, simply enter its ticker symbol.
- When you click the link, Stock Rover will bring up a window showing that it has found the ticker as FOP.OL. If this is the correct ticker, select its Equity Type (it’s essential to get the equity type right, as it isn’t cross-checked for accuracy), and then click ‘Add.’
- The ticker will now be part of Stock Rover, and you can treat it like any other ticker. Depending on the ticker and exchange, less information may be available, but Stock Rover will at least price everything.
Task Wizard
A new feature in this release is the Task Wizard, located at the top left of the screen. This provides shortcuts for common tasks people do in Stock Rover:
- Research and Screen for Stocks
- Create a Portfolio or Watchlist
- Change Table columns
These tasks can be accomplished through other avenues in Stock Rover as well. However, we hope that the Task Wizard will save time for those already familiar with the program while providing an easier introduction to new users.
If you don’t need it, the Task Wizard can be minimized by clicking the double arrow icon in its toolbar.
Tabbed Views
The "Views" panel has been eliminated and merged with the Table as tabs above the Table’s toolbar. This makes changing the set of columns smoother and more intuitive, aligning with current interface conventions:
- You can click on a new tab to change the set of columns.
- If you’d like to create, modify, or delete a View, right-click on its tab.
Categories Panel is now the Navigation Panel
The Categories Panel has been renamed the Navigation Panel, better reflecting its function. When you click on an item, it loads its tickers into the main Table:
- The location has slid down to just below the Task Wizard.
- Some re-labeling has occurred: "Screens" have become "Screeners," and "Compare Tickers" is now "Research Tickers."
Research Box
As mentioned earlier, the "Compare Bar" is now the "Research Box." This change in nomenclature makes it more intuitive for users:
- While our help documentation has been updated to reflect this change, some videos may still reference the Compare Bar.
- If you’re still unsure about how it works, check out the Research Box video.
Delete Research Tickers from the Table
Research Tickers now have a small ‘x’ to the right of their label in the Table. This makes it easier to delete them:
- Not only is it another way to see that a research ticker is different from other tickers in the Table, but you can also more easily delete it.
Print the Table
The ability to print the Table has been one of the most popular requests. Now, if you click the print icon in the Table’s toolbar:
- A new tab will open in your browser with all rows and columns in an easy-to-print layout.
- The data can be copied and pasted into Excel.
News Feed
The News tab in the Insight Panel has been revamped to operate as an RSS feed. You can choose to get either stock-specific news or general market news from eighteen different news sources:
- Edit your feed by clicking the ‘My News Feeds’ button.
- When you click on a headline, a preview pane will slide out to the left of the Insight Panel so you can read the entire news story without leaving the Stock Rover screen.
Context-Sensitive Help
Context-specific help links have been added throughout the program (denoted by a question mark button) that will take you to the relevant section of the help documentation on the website:
- This provides quick access to help when needed, making it easier to use the program.
Simpler Right-Click Menus
Throughout the program, right-click menus have been made simpler and more relevant based on user feedback. Here at Stock Rover, we value your input and strive to create a superior investment research experience for you.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to leave feedback by clicking the button in the upper right corner of the Stock Rover screen or emailing support@stockrover.com.
