Generative AI Adoption Grows Fivefold, Capgemini Reports
Generative AI is becoming increasingly mainstream across enterprises, with Capgemini’s latest report finding adoption has grown fivefold in the last two years. Published earlier this month, the report, “Harnessing the value of AI: Unlocking scalable advantage,” surveyed 1,100 executives at billion-dollar companies across 15 countries and 11 industries.
Key Findings from Capgemini Report
The report revealed that nearly 6 in 10 organizations plan to have AI as either an active team member or supervisor within the next year. Additionally, 30% of companies are now scaling the technology, up from just 6% in 2023. Investment in AI is also on the rise, with almost 9 in 10 organizations increasing their generative AI spending over the past year, dedicating on average 12% of their IT budgets to the technology.
Industries Leading Generative AI Adoption
Industries such as telecom, consumer products, and aerospace are leading the adoption of generative AI. Particular use cases include customer operations, marketing, risk management, and IT. As Franck Greverie, Capgemini’s CTO, noted, “Enterprise adoption of AI is scaling faster than almost any technology we’ve seen before, with companies experimenting with AI across all functions.”
Challenges in Implementing Generative AI
Despite strong adoption, the report also found concerns remain. Two-thirds of enterprises said they’ll need to restructure teams to enable human-AI collaboration, while 71% admitted they don’t fully trust autonomous AI agents in enterprise settings. Governance also remains uncertain, with fewer than half of respondents (46%) believing their companies have established AI policies.
Human-AI Collaboration: A Critical Success Factor
To succeed, enterprises must set up a solid data foundation, in a trusted environment that’s compliant, secure, and ensures necessary privacy. Additionally, they need to establish a new operating model with a balanced human-AI chemistry. This can ensure winning business outcomes.
Generative AI Applications Across Industries
Generative AI is becoming increasingly mainstream across various industries. From customer operations and marketing to risk management and IT, the technology is being adopted at an unprecedented pace. Companies such as NVIDIA and Google are investing heavily in generative AI research and development, with a focus on applications such as image and speech recognition.
Conclusion
The adoption of generative AI is growing rapidly across enterprises. As companies experiment with AI across all functions, they need to establish solid data foundations and new operating models that balance human-AI collaboration. By doing so, they can ensure winning business outcomes and unlock the full potential of generative AI.
